PASSIONATE CRAVING!

Passionate Craving

Verse for Today: August 6, 2026

Psalms 42:1 – As the deer pants for the streams of water, so my soul pants for You, my God.

Human beings have instincts which are part of the mechanism to satisfy their needs. These needs stem from their body, soul, spirit, emotions and character as they live in their environment and culture. These needs vary depending on the age of the individual, the location of stay, the climatic conditions, influence of technology, time of the day or night and and the society in which they live. These factors influence their craving for any substance which they think would satisfy their human propensities.

In the verse cited above, the Psalmist sings about his passion and craving for water just as a thirsty deer living in a dry environment. He compares his craving for God to that of the thirsty deer who pants desperately for water. Brooks are hard to find in his environment. But the deer pants after searching and finding brooks of cool water to quench his thirst and to survive in the dry season. He doesn’t rest until he finds the brooks. He runs around frantically for a brook and drinks to quench his deep thirst.

The Psalmist strikes a reality check by comparing himself with that of the thirsty deer. The Psalmist is a servant of God who has no desire for the earthly waters of the broken cisterns of this world. He knows that if he goes after these cisterns, he will be thirsty again. But he understands in the depth of his soul that the water of God’s brook will only satisfy him and will fill him to overflowing. He knows that only will such a heart to search till he finds God’s brooks of His holy Word will quench him. He knows that he will not be satisfied with the lukewarm waters of the broken cisterns of this world. Just like the Psalmist, a Christian is mostly prompted by spiritual needs, level of spirituality and the extent of the spiritual warfare that he is engaged in as he seeks after the brooks of God. It is there that he will find true satisfaction and proper quenching.

The attitude of the Psalmist in the way he tries to quench his thirst is a great example and true challenge for every child of God towards developing true desire for spiritual drink to meet his spiritual needs.

Psalms 143 6:- I spread out my hands to You; my soul longs for you like a thirty land.

Thought for Today: “Every soul searching for a way to quench thirst will find it with God”

Prayer for Today: O God! Lead me to Your water of life for me to fully quench my thirst.
