Ceaseless Fountain!
Verse for Today: Friday, December 02, 2011
1 Kings 17:7 – Sometime later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.
Changes in circumstances are part of life in this world. There is no guarantee or permanency about situations and environment. There are ups and downs in everything around us. But we often depend too much on some source from which support comes to us. We desire that these sources never dry up and tend to believe that they will all be there all the time. But God keeps reminding us that we must expect changes in our situations. The sources that we depend on are not stable and they disappoint us at times when we least expect it. Prophet Elijah found that the source of water appointed by God for him dried up. The ravens also stopped coming to him at Cherith. Whether it is a prophet or an ordinary believer, it is important to realize that the only unchanging source of support, strength and encouragement is our Lord. He never changes with weather or season. Even when the world around us is in turmoil, He is still the Lord of peace that passes understanding. When the land is dry, the water of life from the Lord will not go dry. When the sources of provision get evaporated, the provisions from the reservoir of heaven will continue to shower upon us. So God wants His children not to depend on the sources that He shows us. He doesn’t want us to trust these brooks of life, but on Him and Him alone. If we look at any tall mountain in our vantage point for help and support, they will all prove to be a great disappointment some time or other. But if we look at the Lord, we will not be disappointed. When one door is closed, He opens another for His children. The new door that He opens for us need not look bright and charming, but we would have to consider that as a way shown to us by the Lord and find His sufficiency in it. Our faith is not built on the sources that we can see in front of our eyes, but on the unseen reservoirs of the unseen Lord.
Dear reader, are you astonished that even the sources that the Lord led you to have also dried up in front of your eyes? Is your mind starting to wonder as to how you would go forward from the present situation? Remember, our Lord is not limited to one ravine or a few birds. The whole universe is His and He can open unusual and unexpected reservoirs for His children. He opened streams from rocks in the desert. He opened a well of water for a boy by the name Ishmael and his mother Hagar. When we are hungry, He feels our hunger and provides for us. When we are grieved, He knows our pain and sends breeze of comfort from His presence. He would not allow us to go orphans. When He calls us out to serve Him in various capacities, He will also provide for us to meet our mundane needs. He has compassion over us just as a father has compassion over his children. He controls the brooks and the rain of this earth and knows when it would stop supporting His children. But He opens other doors for us to meet our needs. These doors are often kept out of sight for us till the last minute so that we would keep trusting the Lord rather than looking at the source. Our Lord is our source and everything flows from Him. He wants us to learn this truth and keep looking unto Him for all our needs irrespective of whether the present source dries up or not. Today no matter what our situation or need is, we must confess that God knows it all and will have His provisions from His sources at His time according to His measure to meet every need to satisfaction. His source is not limited to quantity or appearance but it would meet the need for the praise of His name!
Psalms 34:10 – The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
Thought for Today
The earthly brooks may go dry, but the reservoir of God’s goodness in heaven shall never cease to shower blessings on His children.
The earthly brooks may go dry, but the reservoir of God’s goodness in heaven shall never cease to shower blessings on His children.
