Generation of Faith
Verse for Today: Thursday, January 06, 2011
Psalms 115:11 - You who fear (revere) the Lord, trust in Him; He is their help and their shield.
One of the marks of a person who is devoted to the Lord is that such a person will trust in the Lord for everything in life and in the future. The reverence and devotion to the Lord in his life comes about on the basis of a relationship. It is a personal relationship on the basis of experiences which are not casual, but intimate and sustained. The closer a person is with the Lord, the greater is the intimacy developed with Him which results in closer fellowship and communication. Such a growing relationship makes the person revere the Lord more and more as days go by and emerges into greater trust in the Lord. Such a person fully trusts in the promises of the Lord which are given in His Word. This trust on the basis of personal intimate relationship grows in hope and produces a growing and stronger faith in the promises and the totality of the attributes and characteristics of the Lord. In other words, a person's trust in the Lord is based on facts which come from the experiences of that person with the Lord, and thus the trust is the product of the knowledge about the Lord. At the other side, on the basis of the knowledge the Lord has about each of His children, they are given grace to trust in Him. So when God's children are in situations when they need help, they cry unto the Lord and He sends help from Heaven to meet the needs in a unique way. When they are under attack, the Lord will become their shield. Unless the attackers penetrate the Lord (which is an impossibility), they will not be able to reach His children. God's children know their Lord so intimately as to believe that no matter what the situation is, the Lord is sufficient to help them and remain as their shield against any bulwark. Such knowledge takes away their fear and anxiety and help them to put all their trust in their Lord.
Dear friend, how much you trust the Lord depends on how much you revere Him. How much you revere Him depends on how much you know Him. How much you know Him depends on how close your experiences and relationship with Him are. When you and I have a very intimate knowledge about the Lord of this Universe as our helper and shield, we would be able to put all our trust in Him and relax even in the most trying circumstances of life. This is the challenge the Lord places before you today, to know the Lord more intimately and develop a closer relationship with Him. Today we get to know the Lord through His Word and the time we spend with Him in prayer. When we meditate on His Word in His presence, our hearts will be overwhelmed with His attributes which will be filled in us by His Spirit. Thus when we see the Lord in His glory, the question the Spirit asks us is as to why we can't put all our hope, trust and faith in Him. I am sure we will not have any more excuse in refusing to trust Him. The more we trust in Him, the more we will have faith generated in our hearts to trust in Him for all our needs in all our situations and circumstances. Thus when we trust in Him, we would realize that He is most trustworthy and will never change His promises no matter what. Today we are invoked by the Spirit of God to go to the Lord and to put all our trust in Him and find Him as our help and shield no matter what the situation around us is. It is a challenge and adventure in faith that we can certainly exercise today and find that the Almighty is out there to meet our needs and help us in our circumstances.
Psalms 18:2 - The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
