Walk of faith!
Verse for Today: Friday, January 10, 2014
Psalms 136:16 - To Him who led His people through the
desert, His mercy endures forever.
Desert is the least covetable
place to travel through. Its heat waves and hot sand make travel unbearable.
There are no means to know the direction in which we tread in a desert. There
is no light during the night and no water to drink. The desert is a good
picture of the world we pass through in life. We are often treated unfairly by
our world of competition, jealousy, conflicts, cheating, gossip and character
assassination. We get only heartaches, pain, misery, anguish and anxiety while
we move on. Friends and allies are rare to come by. There are setbacks of
various kinds every step of the way. But still our God takes us through this
social desert to teach us faith and trust. God is invisible to our eyes and so
we often grope in darkness without direction.
Hope often eludes us and we are plunged into loneliness. But God shows
mercy to us by giving us fellowship, care, compassion and grace as we pass through
this desert. He is our shade when the pressure is high and situations very hot.
He will be our living water to quench our thirst in the heat of tensions and
stress. His presence will go with us to give us fellowship and friendship. You
can enjoy the freedom to share all your feelings, desires and needs with Him. He
is there to meet your need for light in the night, water for thirst, food for
hunger and road map through the pillars of fire and cloud. It is these
provisions that make us sing and worship in the midst of the heat and the
trials that come our way during our pilgrimage. We are admonished to look up to
the pillar of cloud during the day and pillar of fire during the night as we
walk by faith. There is no need to waver or fret as we take this desert route
with God.
Dear friend, are you feeling hopelessness
and friendlessness as you walk through the present desert-like experiences in
life? Are you deprived of drink for your
thirst or piece of bread for hunger or guidance in confusing circumstances? Are
you growing weary because the journey is long without any end in sight? But if
you open your eyes of faith, you will be able to see your Lord standing by to
give you shade, guidance, water and food to sustain you and take you forward. His
uninterrupted presence is with you and His angels are encompassing around you
to protect you from all evil. The Lord travels with you each step of the way
and He never leaves you nor forsakes you. He wants you to hold on to Him by
faith to take you forward. He holds your hands and walks at your pace. He
reassures you that He is with you to strengthen you and meet all your needs. By
His mercy, He takes you by the hand and makes you dwell in His shadow. So when
the heat is unbearable, come to His cool waters and graze on His green
pastures. If you gaze at Him, your weariness will vaporize and you will be
filled with comfort, contentment and consolation. He makes you lean on to His
everlasting arms. This world is a desert for God’s children and our only
comfort comes from the Lord. The world’s alternatives are possessions and
positions which cannot buy peace, sleep or joy. But the Lord offers you peace
that passes all understanding, joy unspeakable, and sleep and rest in Him as
you go through the present desert experiences.
Psalms 136:23 - To the One who
remembered us in our low estate, His mercy endures forever.
Thought for Today
God’s desert walkers dwell in the
Garden of Rose of Sharon and Lilly of the Valley along with Manna and the
waters of Marah which give fragrance and beauty.
Prayer for Today
Dear Lord Jesus: Teach me to
dwell under the shadow of Your wings to enjoy the desert walk with You. Amen!
