CHANGING WORLD AND UNCHANGING JESUS
Friday, September 10, 2010

Verse for Today
Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

A major characteristic of our world is its proneness to change. Everything around us in this world is changing. Some changes are so rapid that people find it difficult to cope with it. When everything around us changes, we also change accordingly. The values of this world have changed from bad to worse and so are the behaviors and attitudes of people. Instead of being a caring and concerned community, we have become highly competitive and full of envy which has resulted in conflicts and fights among individuals, families, generations, nations, organizations, philosophies, religions and whatnot. Mutual trust and respect are waning from the world and instead suspicion and mistrust have taken the front seats. Everywhere there is mutual mistrust, misrepresentation, misinterpretation and misunderstanding, and we waste most of our times at families, nations and communities trying to clear misunderstandings and end up with more such confusions. In such a changing world which can no longer be trusted, we have before us the Lord Jesus Christ who never changes. He is what He has always been and will always be. His character, righteousness, behavior, principles, laws and nature have never changed and are always what they have been. There is no bias with Him. He measures His love, grace and mercy for all with the same yardstick. The basis of all His decisions is the same. He has and will always be gracious and loving. He keeps His word always and fulfills His promises perfectly. No matter what changes we find climatically, physically, culturally, technologically or scientifically, the Lord Jesus Christ never changes. He is near to all who call upon His name any time. He meets the needs of His children and is with them when they go through the rough patches of life. He comes to wipe the tears of His children. He performs miracles for His children to keep them going in a fast paced world.

Dear friend, have you been disappointed lately because some people or things around you have changed and that your expectations about some of the sources of help have become like words on a smokescreen? Perhaps some of your helpers have gone from this world unexpectedly, and others have changed their minds about you and the promises made to you. Perhaps your employer has forgotten the good work that you put in for years together and decided to lay you off when less experienced and faithful people are continuing on the payroll. Perhaps some of your spiritual mentors have gone away from this world and you do not have such spiritual support any more. But the Bible today reassures us that even when the whole world changes, our Lord Jesus Christ never changes. He keeps His word and His promises. He is always available to His children. He is sufficient to meet all the needs of His children all the time. He is near us and walks with us every step of the way. He is the silent listener to every conversation we are engaged in. He listens to all that we speak and watches over us at all times. When we put our trust in Him, we can keep going in spite of unfavourable circumstances and changed situations. No matter who or what is against us, He will be with us and for us. He will deal with us according to our needs. He has sufficient grace for us in all our circumstances. He will go before us to prepare our way and walk with us every step of the way lest we falter. As He has been with us, He is now with us and will always be with us and will usher us into His Home where we will be with Him forever and ever. When we have such a never-changing Lord Jesus with us, why should we be afraid, frustrated or sad? Let us rejoice with Him and praise His holy name.

Malachi 3:6 - I the Lord do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.

Thought for Today
The unchanging Jesus gives us His unchanging promises to cope with all changes around us.
