Verse for Today
Hebrews 12:2a - Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
Faith originates from God who lives in perfection, who has the capacity to fulfill all that He has promised. There cannot be faith outside God because only God can give perfect credibility to trust that is put on Him by man. No other force on earth is able to guarantee the fulfillment of promises on which faith is based. Faith comes from God who makes it possible for man to develop the right perspectives in life to put their faith in Him and His promises. All other entities in this universe are changing constantly and have perennial instability. Everything in this universe changes, but God alone is unchanging. These changing entities cannot guarantee the absolute adherence of their character and quality to themselves and others. That is why we are admonished by the Word of God today to fix our eyes permanently on Jesus who is unchanging no matter what happens around. He is the same yesterday and today and forever. He never changes His character. All His promises always hold true. But when man is unable to develop faith in God because of man's inability to believe in God's promises, God goes into the hearts of men to develop faith in them. When they are dead in their sins and trespasses, Jesus goes in to quicken them from their dead estate and give them the grace to believe in God. This faith is authored by Jesus and not by any human intelligence, because any human effort which is based on reason and logic will never be able to create faith in man's heart. God reveals the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ to the hearts of men and generate faith in them through His Spirit. At the same time, man has the responsibility to go to God to ask for faith and be willing to open his heart to receive God's offer of faith. Once this faith is thus revealed in his heart, God gives man the ability to believe in all that He has promised. Thus faith enters into man like a mustard seed and if allowed, it will grow like a big tree. But here again man cannot do it in his ability and so God gives him help through His Spirit and His Word to make him grow in faith.
Dear friend, how is your faith in God? Is it growing or in the same measure in which it was at the time it was planted in your heart by God? In order for faith to grow and become bigger and stronger in you, you need to allow it to grow. Such growth comes only through the uninterrupted work of the Word of God and the Spirit of God. In order for this to happen, you need to focus your attention totally and absolutely on the Lord Jesus who is the author and perfecter of your faith. When you pray to Him, He will help you to increase your faith. When you fill yourself with His glory with the help of His Spirit, faith will be generated in you in larger measure to believe all that is written in the Word of God. This is how you can be empowered to live by faith. As you grow in faith, you will find God more and more believable and His promises will be more and more real to you in the rough patches of your daily life. It will then take all worry and anxiety away from you. It will increase your trust in God and His Word. It will fill your heart with thoughts concerning Jesus and your future home in Heaven. You will then be able to exercise simple childlike faith in God who is your Father. It then takes away all stress and tension from your life and make you relax as you lie down in His green pastures and drink from the cool waters in His presence. But this experience has no shortcuts. The only way is to make Jesus the central focus of your life. Make sure that your eyes are not distracted by the enemy of your soul to look at the images of the gods of this world like money, position, power and prestige. Let the Lord Jesus be the King, seated on the throne of your life and take full control of your thoughts, aspirations and priorities so that He can fill your entire being with faith in Him and His Father.
Psalms 34:5 - They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces will never be ashamed.
Thought for Today
If our eyes and thoughts are filled with Jesus, there won't be any room there for doubts, confusion and unbelief.
